“After planting wheat, I wanna head south,” said 64-year-old “Auntie Wheat” from a rural area in Anyang, Henan province during one livestreaming. This sentence has resonated with countless netizens.

她在连线中告诉大冰，她想在种完麦子后往南走，去看看祖国的大好河山，去云南西双版纳过一个温暖的冬天。近日，在大冰的统筹安排下，在多位爱心人士的接力护送下，麦子阿姨顺利抵达西双版纳。

During one livestreaming, she told host Da Bing (Kwai video app vlogger) that she wanted to travel south after sowing wheat to see the splendid landscapes of her homeland and spend a warm winter in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. Recently, under the arrangements of Da Bing and with the accompany of numerous kind-hearted individuals, Auntie Wheat successfully arrived at the place.

麦子阿姨告诉极目新闻记者，她遇到了好人，“中了大奖”。几天来，她已在西双版纳游玩了多个景点。她说，如果自己的经历能激励更多人走出去也挺好，西双版纳只是一个起点，自己还想到其他地方去看看，如果能周游全国就更好。

In an interview with Jimu News, Auntie Wheat said that she had encountered many good people and felt as if she had “hit the jackpot”. Over the past few days, she visited several attractions in Xishuangbanna. She added that if her experience could inspire more people to explore the world, that would be wonderful. Xishuangbanna is just a starting point for her; she hopes to visit other places and dreams of traveling around the country.

麦子阿姨是河南安阳的一名农村妇人，她形容自己虽已64岁了，但还有着一颗20岁的心。

Auntie Wheat, a farmer from Anyang, Henan, describes herself as having a youthful mindset of a 20-year-old despite being 64-year-old.

麦子阿姨从小性格乐观开朗，喜欢骑自行车，在无边的田野自由驰骋。成家后，麦子阿姨忙于农活，忙于照顾孩子，但也一直走在村里“时尚”的前沿，她曾经在郑州学过裁缝，在喇叭裤盛行的年代，她给自己裁剪了一条裤腿宽一尺二的喇叭裤，因为担心被村里人笑话，她也只是在家里穿穿，过把瘾。后来她把一尺二改成了八寸，才敢穿出门。

From a young age, Auntie Wheat has been known for her optimistic and cheerful personality. She loves riding her bicycle, freely exploring vast fields. After getting married, she became busy with farming and raising children, yet she always stayed at the forefront of fashion in her village. Having learned tailoring in Zhengzhou, she once crafted a pair of flared pants with legs one foot two inches wide during the height of their popularity. Concerned about being ridiculed by villagers, she only wore them at home until she narrowed them to eight inches.

Dreaming of the wider world, Auntie Wheat wishes to explore the world beyond her village. She said that her children have grown up, giving her more free time. As she gets older, she feels an urgency to travel before it’s too late.

2024年夏天，麦子阿姨原本计划骑着自己的电动小三轮一路向北去内蒙古大草原，可因家人生病未成行。

In the summer of 2024, Auntie Wheat had planned to ride her electric tricycle north to the grassland of Inner Mongolia. But the plan failed due to a family illness.

“今年肯定是要出去的，买上一块大电瓶，骑上三轮车，带上地图、帐篷还有锅碗瓢盆、米面油，再带上一块大塑料纸，万一遇到下雨，可以把整个车子都罩住。”眼看着秋收即将结束，麦子阿姨又盘算着趁秋冬农闲时节往南走，因为冬天南方更暖和。

“This year, I must go out. I’ll buy a big battery, ride my tricycle, and bring along a map, tent, cooking supplies, and even a large plastic sheet to cover the whole vehicle in case of rain.” With the autumn harvest nearing completion, she is now contemplating a journey south during the fall and winter, which is the farming-off season, as the weather is milder in the south.

2024年9月12日晚，麦子阿姨连线了一位自己非常喜欢的博主——大冰。“我经常看大冰的视频，感觉他人很正直，很实在。”连线中，她向大冰咨询，“出去转转”需要花多少钱。她说，她有一辆自己的三轮车，还有多年攒下的5000元钱积蓄。她告诉大冰，她准备种完麦子，就往南走，去看看祖国的大好河山，去云南西双版纳过一个温暖的冬天。

On the evening of September 12, 2024, Auntie Wheat had a live connection with a vlogger she greatly admires, Dabin. “I often watch Dabin’s videos; he feels very honest and genuine,” she said. During their conversation, she inquired about the costs of traveling. She talked about her tricycle and savings of 5,000 yuan. Auntie Wheat told Dabin that she will travel south to admire the beautiful landscapes of her country, planning to spend a warm winter in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, after finishing the wheat planting.

Dabin offered her positive encouragements during their conversation and ended by giving her a thumbs up through the screen.

“听得我想哭。”看完视频，有网友评价阿姨的寥寥几句充满了诗意与浪漫“这是我见过最美的诗。”也有网友说这位阿姨在六十多岁迎来了自己的十六岁，一句种完麦子就出发，显得浪漫又真实。

“I wanted to cry when hearing Auntie Wheat’s remarks.” Some netizens commented her words were brief, but were so poetic and romantic, saying “this was the most beautiful poem I have ever seen”. Others said she embraced the vitality of a sixteen-year-old in her sixties. Her phrase, “I would set out after planting wheat”, was romantic but true.

随着视频的传播，她成为了万千网友口中的“麦子阿姨”“麦子奶奶”。网友们开始全网寻找麦子阿姨，各地文旅部门也发出诚挚邀请。

With the spread of the video, she has become known as “Auntie Wheat” or “Granny Wheat” by numerous netizens who begin to look for her across the Internet. Also, Cultural and Tourism Departments from different cities have extended sincere invitations to her.

据快手工作人员介绍，麦子阿姨与大冰的连线，只是一次很随机的直播连线，在10月中下旬的时候，这段视频走红，麦子阿姨才被广大网友注意到。随后，他们便开始寻找麦子阿姨，并于10月底终于与麦子阿姨取得了联系。

The connection was random, according to the staff of Kwai. This video went viral during the mid-to-late October, and Auntie Wheat was noticed by netizens. Then they began to look for her and finally made contact with her in the end of October.

为何种完麦子没有出发？麦子阿姨告诉记者，当时就想看看麦子长得好不好，可等到麦子都发了芽，白菜又熟了，萝卜也长大了。“农民嘛，永远有干不完的活，地里的庄稼就跟自己的孩子一样，不能因为自己要出去转转，就把萝卜、白菜给扔到一边，这是不能的。”就这样，农活一茬接着一茬，原定种完麦子就出发的南行旅程又被耽误了。

Why didn’t you set out after planting your wheat? She told the reporter she had just wanted to know whether the wheat grew well, but cabbages began to turn mature and carrots grew up when the wheat germinated. “Farmers are always busy. Crops are like my children, I can’t ignore them just because I want to go out for travel.” Chores came one after another, and the trip southward was delayed again.

“我正在卖菜的时候，快手的人员给我打电话，我还有点不相信。”后来，快手的工作人员直接坐高铁到了河南安阳，希望能与麦子阿姨见一面。“人家都来了，不见一面不好意思，再说，我这么大年纪了，还在我们本地，他们也拐走不了我啥。”至此，万千网友寻找的麦子阿姨终于被找到了。双方约定一个星期后，再次见面，并确定了云南之旅。

“I was a bit skeptical of the Kwai staff’s calling when I was selling vegetables.” Later, the staff directly took high-speed train to Anyang, hoping to meet her. She said, “Because they had reached, I would feel embarrassed if I refused to see them. I was old, so they naturally couldn’t take anything away from me.” As a result, the Auntie Wheat looked for by many netizens was finally found. Both sides agreed to meet again after one week and confirmed the trip to Yunnan.

11月12日，麦子阿姨骑着她的电动小三轮，载着一兜橘子、一箱手撕面包和她用复合肥袋子亲手缝制的挎包，与前来接她的博主“废材”在安阳高铁站碰了头。

On November 12th, Auntie Wheat rode on her electric tricycle, with a bag of oranges, a box of bread, and a hand-sewn satchel made from a compound fertilizer bag, to meet the blogger, “Fei Cai” (the blogger’s nickname), who came to pick her up at the Anyang high-speed Railway Station.

“废材”陪麦子阿姨到达郑州，然后乘坐飞机直达昆明。这是麦子阿姨第一次长途坐飞机，从进入机场到登上飞机，麦子阿姨觉得一切都新鲜，与空姐合影，拍窗外的青山和白云，一路走一路拍。后来，阿姨觉得只拍不过瘾，还带上了解说，“看看这山，看看这水，看看这景，多漂亮，像花一样。姐妹们，哥哥弟弟们，快出来玩吧，以后走不动，想出来都不行，趁着能走动，看看外面的世界。”麦子阿姨说，她把这些视频分享给了老家的亲友。

The blogger accompanied her to Zhengzhou and then reached Kunming by plane. Since this was her first long-distance flight, she felt everything new from entering the airport to boarding the plane. She took photos with flight attendants, captured green mountains and white clouds outside the window, snapping pictures throughout her journey. Later, she felt just posting photos was dull, so she added some commentaries on her videos. “Look at these mountains, these waters, and this scenery. How beautiful they are! Just like flowers! Sisters and brothers, come out to play! Because one day, we might not able to walk when we want to go out. Therefore, let’s see the world outside when we can still walk.” Auntie Wheat told us she shared these videos with her friends and relatives in her hometown.

到达昆明后，昆明的“小马护士”接机，并张罗麦子阿姨入住了翠湖边的翠湖宾馆。11月13日，博主“流浪汉小黑”和“二牛先生”等爱心人士接棒负责将麦子阿姨护送到西双版纳。几位护送人员身上有文身，因担心吓到麦子阿姨，“二牛先生”提醒大家，无论天多热，都要穿上长袖。为了让麦子阿姨“体验一下拥抱风的感觉”，护送人员特意安排麦子阿姨乘坐摩托车走了一段国道，然后再乘坐房车走高速，直达西双版纳。当天晚上，麦子阿姨入住了景洪市澜沧江边的一家江景酒店。按照此前规划，她会在这里做义工，过一个温暖的冬天。

Auntie Wheat was greeted by a local girl nicknamed “Nurse Xiao Ma” and arranged to stay at the Cuihu Hotel beside Cuihu Lake after arriving at the Kunming airport. Two bloggers named “Hobo Xiaohei” and “Mr. Erniu”, along with other volunteers, took over the responsibility of escorting Auntie Wheat to Xishuangbanna on Wednesday. A few of the escorts had tattoos, worrying that these tattoos might have frighten Auntie Wheat. Therefore, Erniu reminded them to wear clothes with long sleeves no matter how hot the weather was. The escorts specially arranged for her to ride a motorcycle along a section of the national highway, immersing Auntie Wheat in the sensation of embracing the wind, before continuing the journey in a motorhome on the highway, directly to Xishuangbanna. That evening, Auntie Wheat checked into a river view hotel by the Lancang River in Jinghong City. According to her original plan, she would volunteer here during the winter.

回顾这一趟旅程，麦子阿姨很感谢大冰和护送她从河南到云南的爱心人士们。“为了我，他们把自己的事都放下了，真是遇到好人了。”麦子阿姨说，虽然都是不曾谋面的陌生人，但这一路，她感受到了大家的善意。麦子阿姨也感慨，原来有满臂文身的也不一定是坏人。

After the journey, Auntie Wheat expressed her deep gratitude to Da Bing and all the kind-hearted people who escorted her from Henan to Yunnan. “They put their own matters aside for me. I’ve truly met some wonderful people.” She could still feel the kindness of everyone along the journey, although they were strangers. Auntie Wheat also remarked that having tattoos all over one’s arms doesn’t necessarily mean that he or she is a bad person.

麦子阿姨说，她很想感谢很多人，尤其是大冰，她没想到大冰安排得这么周到。这次来云南的飞机票也是大冰出钱买的，她想把钱还给大冰，“我现在还能多多少少干点活，还有人不如我呢。”

Auntie Wheat said she wanted to thank many people, especially Da Bing, for he had made such thoughtful arrangements for her. Da Bing had even paid for her flight to Yunnan, but she wanted to give the money back to him, “I can still do some work now, there are people who are not as good as me.”

目前，麦子阿姨已经在上述酒店入职做义工，她说，酒店的老板和工作人员对她都挺好。麦子阿姨表示，她可能在西双版纳过冬，也可能会到其他地方转一转，如果有机会，还想周游全国。麦子阿姨说，自己文化水平低，想给自己买本新华字典，要活到老学到老。麦子阿姨还鼓励更多的人大胆走出来。

Currently, Auntie Wheat is volunteering at the hotel. She mentioned that the hotel owner and staff have been very kind to her. Auntie Wheat said that she might stay in Xishuangbanna or travel to other places during the winter. If possible, she would like to travel all over the country. Auntie Wheat expressed her desire to buy a Xinhua Dictionary for herself since she received little education, emphasizing her commitment to lifelong learning. 麦子阿姨的这段经历为何能引起那么多人的共鸣？大冰给出了自己的理解，他说：“她是新科技文明突飞猛进的当下，我们那些曾出身乡野及依旧无名在乡野的父辈们的缩影。她是平行世界里被亏欠的、被辜负的、被无视着的，终生隐忍，却又血尚温热的，我们的姨姨、姑姑，甚至母亲。”

Why does Auntie Wheat’s experience resonate with so many people? Da Bing expressed his ideas, saying, “In the rapid advancement of new technological civilization, she is the embodiment of our forebears who were born in the countryside and remained anonymous in the rural areas. She represents such a group of people being overlooked, underappreciated, and ignored, enduring patiently throughout their lives with blood still warm in a parallel world, including our aunties, our grandmothers, or even our mothers.”

大冰解释，此次召集朋友护送阿姨南下圆梦，是因为他觉得没有什么事是比“让母亲高兴”更有价值的了，“不论她是谁的母亲。列此番阵仗，貌似温暖一人，实则是去体恤一群人，其中包括你我的父辈，我们的父母家人”。

Da Bing explained that the reason he gathered friends to escort Auntie Wheat southwards to fulfill her dream was because he believed that nothing was more valuable than “making a mother happy”, regardless of whose mother she is. “This seemingly warm gesture for one person is actually a way to show compassion to a group of people, including our own parents and families,” he said.

博主“废材”也在自己的视频作品中说：“她不是我的妈妈，但是，她不是我的妈妈吗？”

Feicai also said in his video, “We’re not related by blood, but... isn’t she my mother?”

麦子阿姨入职的酒店老板王先生告诉记者，自己的母亲已经去世二十多年了，“有种遗憾是子欲养而亲不待，我认为我们现在做这件事情不只是帮麦子阿姨圆梦，也是在帮我们自己圆梦。”

Mr. Wang, the owner of the hotel, told reporters that his mother had passed away for more than twenty years. “There’s a kind of regret that comes with the ability to take care of your parents but not being able to because they’re no longer there. I believe that what we’re doing now is not just helping Auntie Wheat fulfill her dream, but also fulfilling our own dreams,” he said.
