2009 is the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic and also a time when UK-China relations are both substantial and expanding.
There are many instances of a close working relationship between our two countries.
China is now the UK’s largest market for the export of goods outside the US and EU and the UK is the No.1 EU investor in China. The UK has many more Chinese students than any other EU country and more joint working between our scientists than any other European nation.
Our leaders have been working together effectively on the global economic crisis and we much look forward to Premier Wen’s forthcoming visit to the UK. We have substantial and increasing interaction on international issues of peace and security, in science, climate change, development assistance and culture.
I look forward to an exciting 2009 and many best wishes for the Year of the Ox!

2009年是中华人民共和国建国60周年，也是中英关系巩固发展的一年。很多事例可以证明我们两国的紧密合作关系：
中国已经是英国除了美国和欧盟之外的最大出口贸易市场，英国也是欧盟诸国中最大的对华投资者。和欧盟各国相比，英国的中国留学生人数最多，中国与英国在科技领域进行的联合协作，也比中国和欧盟其他国家进行的要多。
两国领导人已在应对全球金融危机问题上进行了卓有成效的合作，我们更热切期待温总理即将开始的对英国的第四次访问。我们在安保、科技、气候变化、发展互助、以及文化等国际问题上一直有稳固和深入的互动交流。我期待一个更令人激情澎湃的2009年，也为这个牛年送上我所有的美好祝愿！
